C.O.B.R.A, which stands for Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, allows former employees to continue with there current health insurance coverage for up to nine months after being let go from their place of employment, at having to pick up 100% of the coverage cost. There is currently a bill in Congress, that if passed will extend the period from nine months to fifteen. The government currently offers a stimulus package that provides assistance with paying the medical costs for C.O.B.R.A, but this package will expire on the 31st of December 2009, if the bill in Congress is not passed. Should this happen there will be millions of unemployed individuals without medical coverage, and requiring them to shop around for the purchase of a new medical coverage policy. One that is affordable and will provide them with the basic coverage that they require.

Many people today are trying to find the cheapest health insurance possible. Budgets are already stretched to the maximum and people can simply not afford to provide medical insurance for their families. Unfortunately, the high cost of health insurance is driving some people to do without medical coverage entirely. If an affordable policy were available to them, they would make the effort to stretch their budgets to make regular premium payments.
